Out and About in the Scottish Borders
The closest town is Kelso, a 15 minute drive away. Like all of the border towns it is steeped in history. Boasting one of the four borders Abbeys along with, Floors Castle & many historical buildings within the town, lots to explore when you have finished looking around the small unique shops in the pretty town centre. A race course, point to point course, golf course, ice rink & monthly farmers market can also be added to the list of Kelso’s attractions.
A 40 minute drive over the border will take you to Alnwick, where the outstanding Alnwick Castle Water Gardens are not to be missed. Something for everyone here, Harry Potter Fans will enjoy the Castle experience & the young children love the water features in the gardens (take towels & change of cloths for them!).
Continuing on a water theme, a half hour drive East will take you over to the coast at Berwick-Upon-Tweed. From there a drive North to feed the Sealions in Eymouth Harbour & explore East Lothian. Or South to the lovely beaches at Bamorough.
In the Borders we love a festival. They range from the specticle of the 200 horse cavalcade of the rievers festivals, hosted in most of the Borders towns. To ‘book’, ‘Forest’, ‘Beer’ & ‘Music’ festivals.
